The following are some basic guidelines provided by Mid Michigan Waste Authority (MMWA) for detailed set-out instructions on trash, yard waste and recycling or click here to visit MMWA's website.

All materials must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m.
on your designated service day - THURSDAY

Materials that are not at the curb when collection vehicles go by will not be picked up until your next service day. Residents should leave space between trash, recycling, and yard waste containers so that the collection crews can easily identify which materials should be collected by each truck

Trash

  • All trash should be placed in to the MMWA curb cart with the blue lid labeled "trash only"
  • Place your cart with the lid opening towards the street, with the handle toward the residence
  • Place your cart within 6 feet of the curb
  • We recommend residents bag their trash before placing it in the cart
  • Allow 3 feet on each side of the container for the collection equipment to maneuver
  • If your properly prepared materials were out within the proper time frame but not picked up, please leave them out until they are serviced
  • Report all missed collections on your service day or before 5:00pm the next business day by calling MMWA at 989.781.9555. Each resident has a one business day window to report a missed pickup.

  • When a major holiday falls on a weekday, collection days will be delayed by one day. For example, if Christmas Day is on a Wednesday, collection services for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be delayed one day. Holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday do NOT delay collection services.

The observed holidays for Mid-Michigan Waste Authority are:

    • New Years Day
    • Labor Day
    • Memorial Day
    • Thanksgiving Day
    • Independence Day
    • Christmas Day

Bulk Items

  • Up to two (2) large items, such as mattresses, furniture and appliances, allowed each week
  • Set out on regular collection day (Thursday)
  • Carpet must be rolled, cut in 4' lengths and weigh 50 lbs. or less
  • The trash driver is responsible for collecting your properly prepared bulk item and getting it scheduled for pickup. If the truck is full, or the driver is unable to collect the item by himself, the driver will place an orange sticker on the item marking the box that reads "item pick up scheduled do NOT remove from the curb". The bulk truck runs 1 - 2 business days behind the regular trash truck

Recycling

  • Carrollton Township Residents have WEEKLY recycling
  • All recyclables should be placed loose into the MMWA curb cart with the green lid labeled "recyclables only"
  • Residents should recycle paper and cardboard, cartons, aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles, jars, and tubs and glass bottles and jars. Recyclables should be clean, empty and dry.
  • Place your cart within 6 feet of the curb
  • Place your cart with the lid opening towards the street, with the handle side towards the residence
  • Allow for 3 feet on each side of the container for the collection equipment to maneuver

Yard Waste

  • Yard Waste collection runs from the first full week in April through the first full week in December
  • Place yard waste in cans 20-35 gallons in size or in paper yard waste bags
  • Cans need a "Yard Waste" sticker (available free of charge at Township Offices)
  • Twigs and grasses cannot extend more than 12 inches above the lip of the container
  • Weekly collection on refuse day, April - November; Christmas trees in January
