ELIGIBILITY

1. All players must live in Saginaw County. However, if a player has formerly participated in the Bridgeport Recreation Baseball or Softball program and then moves out of the area, he/she will be allowed to continue in the program for the current season if he/she desires with the approval of the Board.

2. A player's age on August 1 of the current year is his/her playing age for the summer recreation programs.

3. An adult must be present with each team for the entire game or the game will be forfeited.

4. Deadline for adding new players is the first game of the season or having consent of the League Director.

PLAYING RULES

1. M.H.S.A.A. Baseball Rules with the following exceptions:

a. Forfeit time is game time.

b. A team must start and finish a game with no less than 7 players.

c. Game will consist of 6 innings or 1-½ hours. 5 innings will constitute a complete game.

d. Base distance will be 60 feet and pitching mound is 40 feet.

e. No leading off, stealing will be allowed after the pitch crosses the plate. Cannot steal home.

f. Balks will not be called

g. The infield fly rule will not be in effect

h. A pitcher may pitch 2 innings per game or 6 outs, and no more than 6 innings per week, with 24-hour rest between games. The starting pitcher is the only pitcher that can return to the mound.

i. All players present must be placed in the batting order and will be required to play a minimum of 2 innings in the field.

j. There will be a 7 run limit per inning with the exception of the last inning in which teams will be allowed to score as many runs as possible

k. There will be a 10 run mercy rule after 4 innings

l. There will be unlimited substitution, players may be taken out and re-entered into the field any time. The starting pitcher may be returned to the mound only once.

m. In order to allow more innings to be played the following are in effect:

1. The next ½ inning will begin one minute after the last one ends

2. There will be a mandatory courtesy runner for the catcher with 2 outs. This runner may not be one of the next four batters in the line-up

n. Protective headgear must be worn by all batters, base runners, and catcher. Penalty for deliberately removing helmet: player is called out. Mask and helmet must be worn by any player warming up a pitcher

o. Any person who, in the umpire's judgment DELIBERATELY THROWS A BAT (either on the ground or in the air) will be ejected from the game.

p. Home team will use the third base dugout and be responsible for the official book

q. Adults are allowed to coach the bases provided there is an adult on the bench to keep players under control. Any player coaching the bases must wear protective helmets.

r. Tennis shoes or plastic all purpose spikes are recommended for this age group

s. Bunting will be allowed

t. Runners must slide on any close play at any base except 1st.

u. REMEMBER the game is played for the fun and enjoyment of the children. Almost all trouble during games are traceable to an adult. Adults should encourage, not hinder, good clean baseball and good sportsmanship.
